Re: Topic 1 DQ 2
The ability to understand the data about a special issue in the health care setting and apply it is an essential for positive patient outcome is extraordinarily crucial in our field today. The health care field is an ever changing environment with a constant need for improving the process. In the analysis of the data, trends or patterns are recognized, and those trends allow the assumption of predictability, which can create stronger models of care, resulting in increases quality of care and patient safety. Statistical analysis of the data is used to answer questions that improve population health. I am an ECT nurse and the program started 6 years ago with our success rate being 77% compare to state wide. The result is based on a questionnaire with specific questions after 12 acute treatment. This is how we promote the program. I think that there is many unanswered question in this data i.e. define “success rate” , “is it ECT with medication combination” etc…. I have seen individual success generally half way through simply by a smile, improved mood and affect, able to resume some simple daily functions, watching a movie etc…

Professor and Class,
Statistical Concepts in Nursing
It is incredibly crucial for health professionals to understand statistical concepts, particularly when scrutinizing and critically analyzing health reports and documents. In the recent past, healthcare organizations have seen a rampant increase in research and evidence-based practices. As such, understanding statistical concepts will allow healthcare professionals to comprehend research which underpins evidence-based practices (Baghi & Kornides 2013). Additionally, health industries gain knowledge on consumer market features such as age through statistical information. Such statistics determine types of services for consumers and their level of affordability. Health organizations also use statistics for limited resource allocation. Quality improvement is a critical aspect of health facilities. Statistical information is an essential tool for measuring organizational performance. It establishes benchmarks and standards of excellence through which quality improvement units utilize to measure future outcomes. Analytical aspects are also crucial in innovative product development.
My area of specialty is case management. As health executives, we are tasked with planning, guiding, and coordinating patient care according to patient needs and situations. We are responsible for maintaining communication between the patients, insurance providers, physicians, and the patient’s families. Therefore, possessing in-depth knowledge of statistical components, insurance, and overall medical terminology is highly essential (Lukersmith, Millington & Salvador-Carulla, 2016). We perform sequential and sometimes overlapping functions in mental health, geriatric care, and other services. In my unit, we utilize statistical information to determine eligible patients through a collection of in-depth information on patients’ needs as well as resources. Through this information, we understand the patient’s social, physical, mental, and spiritual situation of the patient. Statistical information provides us with information on the potential of the patients to benefit from home health services. Such information enhances targeting for services that improve the health of long-term care patients. We utilize statistical information to effectively document and submit patient medical records. It also assists in the evaluation of patient needs for successful prioritizing.
