EBP Type 2 Diabetes Nursing Intervention & NBP Response discussion ORDER NOW FOR CUSTOMIZED AND ORIGINAL ESSAY PAPERS ON EBP Type 2 Diabetes Nursing Intervention & NBP Response discussion I HAVE TO REPLY TO 3 POST FIRST POST I have been a nurse for a little over three years and have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I currently work as a care management coordinator at an outpatient clinic. When I’m not working or doing schoolwork, I like to spend time with family, exercise, cook, and hang out with my cat. I am currently enrolled in the NSG 5111 Evidence and Practice course for the MSN FNP program. My future plans include completing this program successfully and eventually specializing in endocrinology. EBP Type 2 Diabetes Nursing Intervention & NBP Response discussion PICOT Question In adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the primary care setting, how does the implementation of chronic disease care management compared to the absence of implementation affect hemoglobin A1c levels over the course of one year? Cultivating a Spirit of Inquiry One strategy a master’s prepared nurse could utilize to cultivate a spirit of inquiry in his or her workplace would be to implement monthly case study presentations that highlight new technologies or evidence-based practices that have potential to be used in practice in the future. It is important to keep in mind that how evidence-based practice is presented has a significant effect on how it will be received and subsequently accepted into practice (Harvey et al., 2019). Case studies should focus on past or present patient cases so that any new information discussed becomes more relatable and tangible in the eyes of the clinicians. Involving every member of the care team, advocating for an environment of inquiry, inspiring colleagues to participate in research and having discussions about how practitioners can make clinical practice safer and more efficient leads to new ideas and grounds for new inquiries which furthers the growth of the nursing profession. I currently work at a freestanding Emergency Room that is associated with a level 2 trauma center. In my free time, I enjoy staying active by working out at Orange Theory Fitness and have recently started prenatal yoga. My husband and I are expecting our first baby in May and we are so excited in preparation for our new addition! I am enrolled in NSG 5111 Evidence and Practice course for the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program. My future plans include successfully completing this program and working in a primary care setting or specializing in cardiology as an FNP. PICOT Question In hospitalized patients requiring mechanical ventilation (P), how does the use of chlorohexidine solution (I) compared with toothbrushing for routine oral care (C) affect the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (O) within their hospital stay (T)? Cultivate a Spirit of Inquiry One strategy that a master’s prepared nurse can do to cultivate a spirit of inquiry to overcome barriers from colleagues who are resistant in pursuing the evidence-based process is to lead by example. As a master’s prepared nurse, it is important to take on a leadership role for advancing nursing practice. Furthermore, nursing leaders can support the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) by cultivating a spirit of inquiry within their organization. According to Lunden, Teräs, Kvist, & Häggman (2019), nurse leaders can be role models to other nurses by fully participating in the process of EBP. References Kumari, S., & Nair, R. (2018). In breaking down your question, I see that you have identified all components of PICOT in the correct format. I would however suggest being more specific with your intervention. Your question states that your intervention is “chronic disease care management” and your outcome is how it will affect hemoglobin A1c levels. According to Gallagher Ford and Melnyk (2019), the PICOT question should provide specific terms to be used when searching for research to answer the question. Choosing a specific intervention of diabetes care management like carbohydrate counting or increasing daily exercise would provide more specific search terms and yield better search results. A specific PICOT question will help lead to the most distinct evidence-based research available on the topic (Gallagher Ford & Melnyk, 2019). By choosing a particular intervention, you will be able to find evidence specifically on how that intervention affects hemoglobin A1c levels.
