Media Writing : Press release Pretend that you have been tasked with writing a press release about Weber State University’s plans to operate amid the COVID pandemic as restrictions are lifted this spring and summer. You need to find the information that would be relevant as well as some quotes. Here are some links that might help: https://www.weber.edu/coronavirus Videos from university President Brad Mortensen. Letter to faculty and staff from Public Safety Director Dane LeBlanc Update on vaccinations from the state of Utah Remember, the press release should have a quote from a strategically selected person, and you should be able to find something suitable in these files. Unlike a news story, you do not need attribution for all of the information, just for the direct quote from the strategically selected person, whomever you choose. The assumption is that the information is coming from Weber State University. attachment_1 attachment_2 attachment_3 Dear Faculty and Staff, As we approach the start of March, I want to update you on our travel and event guidelines moving forward. Please keep in mind that as we begin to ease some of the guidelines we’ve had in place, we continue to encourage all of you to take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well being of yourselves and those around you. Travel University-related travel (domestic and international) should not occur through March 14, 2021. (See the COVID-19 faculty and staff page (????????) for additional travel guidelines.) Beginning March 15, we anticipate easing travel restrictions for domestic travel within the United States. We encourage you to consider flexible travel arrangements when making reservations, in case circumstances change. Individuals who wish to travel on university business will need to test negative for COVID-19 within three days prior to travel, and must receive a negative test result upon their return prior to returning to work on campus. These testing protocols for travel include individuals who have received the COVID-19 vaccination, per current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (????????) (CDC) guidelines. Motor pool vehicles are available for university-related travel. As of March 15, the university motor pool will allow more than one person in a vehicle, provided that all occupants wear face coverings while inside the vehicle. Employees using motor pool vehicles will be expected to test for COVID-19 pre and post travel as outlined above. The number of occupants in a motor pool vehicle should not exceed 50% of the vehicle occupancy rating. Events Our current event protocols will continue through March 15. After March 15, event organizers may consider hosting events with the following stipulations: No third-party events No food or drink served at events No conferencing or conference services All state and local COVID-19 mitigation protocols must be observed Venue hosts must adhere to COVID-19 spacing restrictions, as outlined by Facilities Management Venue occupancy must be no less than 36 square feet per person The new protocols are subject to change based on revised guidance from the state or local health departments and/or new direction from the CDC. The university anticipates revisiting its event guidelines in mid-April. Vaccinations Weber State is assisting Weber-Morgan Health Department with standby vaccinations. At the end of the distribution day, there are some vaccine doses left over (usually 7-8 per day), mostly from individuals not showing up for their appointment. The standby list is currently being prioritized by age, similar to the state’s prioritization level. When we get to your age group, you will receive an email with information about the standby process and requesting your cell phone number. If you would like to share your cell phone number ahead of time so we have your contact information when we get to your age group, you can send it to [email protected]. Weber State has been able to minimize the spread of COVID-19 on our campuses thanks to all of your efforts and vigilance. Our goal in easing these protocols for travel and events is to continue to work toward a new normal, while maintaining the safeguards necessitated by the pandemic.
