In most cases, people volunteer their services at the POD. However, this may not always be the case. Therefore, funds need to be set aside to ensure smooth running of the PODs. In my opinion, these funds could instead be used to finance rescue operations and for compensating the victims and their families. Logistical Considerations For POD Setup Another drawback of having PODs is that they are time-consuming and involve plenty of logistics. POD sites are selected and finalized based on many factors and considerations. Some of the factors and deliberations include population density, traffic patterns, and design layouts of the POD. Hence, a significant amount of time is spent on planning a POD. In addition, the rescue teams have to decide and distribute the supplies proportionally among the victims. This by itself is a substantial responsibility and challenge. These factors would slow down a rescue operation during disaster management. Conclusion Planning well ahead of time would help with eliminating or minimizing the difficulties resulting from the creation of a POD. Finding a place that is enclosed by ether walls fences or some natural barrier. This will deter people from trying to steal supplies. Organized entry and exits, that have switch backs that can keep the flow of people moving but also make it difficult for mobs to rush in.
