(Approximately 78 minutes) The issue that became the catalyst for this conference was the bombing of a satirical magazine (Charlie Hebdo) and a Jewish delicatessen in Paris. Incorporate the following questions into an essay. Do not use a bullet format but create an essay that incorporates each question into the overall body of your paper. From the video, how have Europeans sought to address the problem of freedom of speech? What unique historical and cultural events have contributed to the European view of free speech? E.g. What is hate speech? Should the U.S. impose a ban on hate speech? Be sure to develop your argument for or against a ban. What is meant by the heckler’s veto? Be sure to give examples and explain how your examples reflect the above idea. Should there be limits placed on free speech on the internet? (Especially in the light of terrorism, or the current political season) Provide a reasoned rationale for your point of view.
