The Global Markets Office of China (GM China) in the International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce welcomes applications for five unpaid virtual part-time internships this fall. Interns will work with GM China staff from Commerce Department headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as with Foreign Commercial Service employees based at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and in U.S. Consulates in China (including in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Wuhan). Possible internship duties include: · Researching and analyzing issues related to U.S.-China trade policy; · Drafting briefing papers; · Conducting research using English and Chinese websites as well as other materials; · Joining telephone calls and virtual meetings and writing summaries of those discussions; · Organizing research results for presentations; · Assisting with implementing trade events; · Analyzing trade data; and · Coordinating meeting arrangements. Key characteristics for applicants include: · Interest in U.S.-China trade policy and promotion as well as investment issues; · Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing; · Strong research skills; · Keen attention to detail; and · Ability to work independently and take initiative in a team context.
