This assignment asks you to explore the socio-economic, political, technological and cultural conditions that explain the rise of commercial radio and TV broadcasting in the U.S. Watch the documentary “Empire of the Air” and, please write an essay (500-750 words) discussing: 1) Three economic, political, regulatory or technological factors that explain the rise of radio broadcasting as a commercial enterprise in the U.S., and 2) provide a relevant conclusion on what you learn through this documentary about the development of radio technology as a mass media in the 20th century: what was intriguing and illuminating about this case study for you? What is the main takeaway or idea you learned?

Directions: Each student will choose a chemical element to research. No two students can choose the same element. Each student will research his or her chosen element and answer the 18 questions below. You can curate digital content from a wide variety of online sources including trade publications, social media profiles, blogs, scientific journals, news outlets, videos, podcasts, ebooks, white papers, images, cartoons, memes, tv shows, movies, and more. At the center of it all is the curator – you – hand-selecting which content to share, determining the organizational method that will increase accessibility and usability, and adding context and insight that will aid your audience in gaining a deeper understanding of the content. For this assignment: Create a presentation of a curated collection of digital content (12 to 15 items) relating to various social psychology concepts covered in this course, adding context and insight for your audience to gain a deeper understanding of the content. You can focus on a specific theme or area of application if you like. You must include source citations for each piece of content in the presentation, including image sourcing.
