Your essay must be structure into three separate paragraphs  An Introduction that  discusses  the  bibliographic  details  of  the  source.    Answer  these  questions in your introduction: What source did you choose? Who wrote the source?  When did s/he write it?  What kind of document is it?  Why was it written? A Body paragraph that  analyzes  the  source  and  discusses  its  contents.    Answer  these questions in your body paragraph:  What does the source say? What is the main point being made by the author of the source? What evidence does the author present to prove their point? What is the one sentence in the source that summarizes the main point being made? A Conclusion that explains how the source fits into the larger context of world history as discussed  in  the  chapters  assigned  for  the  Unit.     Answer  these  questions  in  your conclusion:  What was happening in world history that directly relates to this source at the time it was written? Who were the important people  involved in the events discussed in the source?  What were the important events that prompted the writing of the source?  Etc. How does knowing the historical information from the textbook (Who? What? When?) help me better understand the point being made in the source? How  does the  information  from  the  source help me better  understand  the historical information presented in the textbook?  Note the following requirements: The body paragraph must include a full quote (sentence) from your chosen Primary Source.  In text and works citations are required. The conclusion must summarize the historical information in the textbook that relates to time of source.  Specific points made in the textbook must be referenced. Prep the questions listed below. Use a word doc to do so. Your grade will be based on how well you answer the question and use the unit sources to do so. Your answer should be analytical and not just descriptive in nature. This means that it should include a thesis and supporting evidence from the videos, readings and lectures. I will select 2 of the questions below for the exam and you will be required to answer ONE of them. Prepare your essay in advance in a word document so you will only need to copy and paste it into the exam box on the day of the exam. 1. In recent years revisionist historians have produced histories that challenge traditional interpretations of historical figures and events. Use the following to assess how their views of Columbus, the Founding Fathers, & the Constitution differ from more traditional ones. Then, based on your understanding of historical revisionism, assess how modern historians might interpret the actions and presidencies of Lincoln, FDR, and Trump in contrast with more traditional approaches. 2. It could be argued that the founding fathers fear of possible tyranny is why so few expressed powers are given to U.S. presidents in Article II of the Constitution. What are these expressed powers and how and why have presidents been able to increase their power and position since the era of George Washington? Do Executive Orders give modern presidents too much power? Explain and provide examples for your argument. 3. Since the Civil War, it is common for U.S. Presidents to issue executive orders. According to Article II, what gives a president the power to issue executive orders? Under what circumstances have they done so? Select 4 executive order covered in the videos and lectures to assess their impact on Americans, the balance of power of federal branches of government and on the presidency.

They are as follows, each can be answered in 1-2 Paragraphs. 1. Why do you think no president has ever been impeached by the senate? 2. Do politics have a role in impeachment? (This can be answered in one paragraph)  3. Is this true from the framers of the constitution? – (Meaning, is this what the founding fathers imagined impeachment would be like. ) 4. What are the similarities and differences between each impeachment case? (I know you guys did this with Nixon/Trump. Now I want you to do this  with all the impeachment)  5. Would you vote differently based on the facts you read?

Choose 1 topic to answer   1) During the late 19th century, farmers suffered from several perpetual problems. We discussed six of these specific difficulties.  In a comprehensive essay, discuss each one in detail. Were these problems out of the control of farmers?  If so, which ones?  How did farmers eventually address these problems?   2) We covered five factors that promoted the New Manifest Destiny movement in the United States in the late 19th century. In a comprehensive essay, discuss each one in detail. And what was the ultimate objective and goal of this new spirit of Manifest Destiny?   3) In 1898, the US went to war against Spain. Discuss this war in detail and outline the four main causes of it. What incident is considered the immediate cause of the war?  What were the consequences of it?  What was the chief advantage of the war?  What was the chief disadvantage?

Please read the three short excerpts in the attached PDF. The first two are from Luther’s works, and the third is from a short pamphlet by Barclay.  Answer the following questions as best as you can by referring to these texts: 1. In “Of Orders,” Luther is talking about the Catholic holy sacrament of “Ordination.”  This is where a man is made into a priest.  All high members of the Catholic Church were in fact priests, as they still are today.  What importance does Luther put on this sacrament, and how does he criticize it? 2.  In “The Papacy at Rome,”  Luther is responding to a Catholic theologian who had already attacked Luther!  That theologian had been rather rude and he had attacked not just Luther’s religious arguments, but he had also attacked Luther personally.  How does Luther respond to this personal attack?  Is Luther at all insulting or sarcastic? 3. Robert Barclay was a member of a small Protestant Christian sect in England, the Quakers.  They were/are certainly Christian, but their understanding of religious authority (The Bible, for example) is unique among Protestants.  Does Barclay believe that the Bible is the ultimate source for God’s word, or is there another source that supersedes it?

Over the past two weeks, our readings and discussions have been focused on establishing a baseline for understanding diversity. In this module, we’ll begin our tour through the four lenses, beginning with history. As we dive into the four lenses, keep in mind that each lens is framed as a way of seeing the issue and is not necessarily tied to the associated discipline. So, looking through the historical lens isn’t just about History Channel documentaries—it’s also about how you use the lens to understand the past and present. As you write your initial post, answer the following questions: In what ways does looking through the history lens enhance your understanding of diversity? Consider a current event in the news that has a historical counterpart. How does looking through the history lens influence how you perceive both the current and historical events? Please share a news link to your events. How does analyzing the relationship between history, culture, and diversity have an influence on your discipline of study or chosen profession? Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of Sigmund Freud’s theory. Which aspects of his theory seem relevant to you? Which aspects seem more irrelevant?

The purpose of the research project is to teach you how to research and analyze a subject in history using primary and secondary sources and present your ideas in a coherent manner.   Choose an influential individual in European history and address the following questions in a 1000 word paper, excluding footnotes and bibliography.   Who was he or she? What were the major influences in his or her life?  What key ideas or influences did he or she develop?   What influence did this person have on subsequent history?   The individual’s influence on subsequent history should be the major focus of the paper.  This is not a biography but an analysis of an individual’s importance and influence in history.  Footnotes and bibliography are required. You are required to use at least two primary and five additional primary or secondary sources in your research and use and cite all of them in the footnotes.
