So by now, you have read a lot of Emerson.  And a lot of you in your essays said that he is very confusing and at times frustrating, writer.  I totally agree.  We’ll be reading more of him, but we’ll also be transitioning to other writers, most specifically Henry David Thoreau (who is much, much easier to understand).  So this assignment is going to be a pretty straightforward one.  The prompt is: What do you think of Emerson? I want you to be VERY specific here. Don’t just say he’s confusing–tell me why and tell me the implications of that.  Many people have said that Emerson is confusing on purpose, and that is a kind of unkindness to his readers (I don’t disagree).  So talk about that kind of stuff.  You can write whatever you want in any kind of way you want; but again, be VERY specific.  The more specific the better. Use quotes, then talk about these quotes. Use Thoreau to help you explain Emerson, etc. Your essays should be at least two pages double spaced

Topic: One form of technology that has changed our lives, making them either better or worse; and why.Intro-  It should focus generally on the issue that you will raise in the body of your essay.  You may use as your introduction one of the following: an anecdote, either personal or 3rd-person, that you can relate to the subject to be discussed; a statistic that you can relate to the subject; a fact that you can relate to the subject; a quote, from either a famous person or someone non-famous, that you can relate to the subject; or a question that functions as a lead-in to your discussion of the essay.  Essay Topic Identification paragraph – This paragraph should identify the issue you will discuss throughout your essay, generally establishing what you see as the form of technology that has affected our lives, for better or worse.  3 Body Paragraphs  Conclusion- Summarize the overall thesis 3-4 sentences. 

HA3120D – Essentials of Managed Care. LP01 Assignment: Impact Paper.  Directions: Write a 2 to 3-page paper concerning the impact the development of MCOs has had on the doctor-patient relationship. 1. List issues that have impacted the doctor-patient relationship due to the development of MCOs and the change in what the MCO expects from a doctor. 2. After listing the issues, discuss the positives and/or negatives of each. 3. From your text readings and research through the virtual library, etc., do you believe that the doctor-patient relationship has been affected more positively or negatively? 4. Class: Research Methods. Research Study:  Is obesity associated with diabetes risk among Americans aged 35-45? Before any study can be undertaken, the researcher must determine what exactly will constitute the study’s target population, sample frame, and sample. Also, to be considered is how the researcher will go about recruiting subjects into the study. Based on what you have learned about sampling in this module, address the following in a 3-page essay: 1. Describe the type of sampling strategy most appropriate for your research study. (hint: it’s stratified) 2. Identify your target population (obese males/females, ages 35-45) and how you would determine your sampling frame and sample size. 3. Read Claire of the Sea Light by Edwidge Danticat and then write a reader response paper of about 500 words [use MLA format] that incorporates a discussion of two or more of the following topics. Include quotations from the book as appropriate:  a. How the same forces that give and sustain life also take it away.  b. How a person can be “both hungry for life and terrified of it.”  c. The “loving surrender” Claire’s mother makes at Claire’s birth and the “loving surrender” Claire’s father is on the verge of making when Claire disappears.  d. Nozias’ custom of taking Claire on her birthday to visit her mother’s grave.  e. The mysterious bonds that people share with the natural world and with each other.  f. How Danticat uses interrelated stories to pose and answer questions from multiple perspectives.  g. Where Claire goes when she disappears.
