EMRs are useful for creating legible and organized information and offers instant access to information about individual patients. Despite EMRs usage having positive effects, the adoption rate of EMRs has been slow and has been met with immense resistance from physicians. EHRs are a vital tool for ameliorating the quality and safety of healthcare delivery (Rao, DesRoches, Donelan, Campbell, Miralles, & Jha, 2011). This unsystematic review aims to express the barriers that physicians in rural and small practices face in adopting electronic health records. The slow adoption of EHRs can be attributed to resistance among physicians. This is considering physicians are at the frontline of the electronic medical records use. Whether physicians support the use of electronic health records is a great determinant of their effects on various user groups in a healthcare setting. Assignment: Literature Review and References health and medicine This means that physicians carry a great impact on how EMR is adopted in a healthcare facility (Boonstra, & Broekhuis, 2010). There are, however, myriad of issues that hinder the adoption and seamless change from conventional to technological forms of patient information. The Capstone Project will identify SEAMLESS ADOPTION OF ELECTRONIC MEDICAL/ HEALTH RECORDS 2 and discuss some of the hindrances to the adoption of electronic health records by physicians in small practices and rural settings. The Institute of Medicine in its to Err is Human report maintained that a Safer Health Systems notes that over 50% of adverse events attributed to error can be prevented. This is important to come up with solutions that align with the existent barriers, customized to address the hindrances and in turn open up opportunities for the seamless adoption of EHRs in rural and small practices (Gale, Croll, & Hartley, 2015).Assignment: Literature Review and References health and medicine The Capstone Project Proposal will influence healthcare by enabling adoption of information technology options that have the capacity to minimize costs and ameliorate the efficiency of healthcare. Illuminating the barriers to adoption of EHRs will enable necessary stakeholders to address them to ensure that physicians have the information they need when it is needed. Furthermore, adoption and utilization of EHRs are a priority for US national policy to change the efficiency and quality of healthcare. SEAMLESS ADOPTION OF ELECTRONIC MEDICAL/ HEALTH RECORDS 2 The Problem Description Over the past decade, healthcare organizations have been keeping the patient medical files in safes and cabinets, which have resulted in files retrieval issues as well as the patients diagnoses notes getting into the hand of health record officers. The phenomenon has eluded issues in respect to the confidentiality of the patient health information and status, which to some extent resulted in legal issues between the clients and the health facilities. Indeed, the problem exists in healthcare organizations globally, evident by the time turnaround before the patient clocking in a health facility and the duration taken to retrieve the patient file. As a result, embracing Electronic Medical/ Health Record would play a pivotal role in alleviating the problem of confidentiality of patient health information as only the prescribed physician would possess access to the patient notes. As a result, the Capstone project on seamless adoption of electronic medical/ health records would address the confidentiality issue that has faced most health organizations in the past; thus, exuding the restoration of patient confidence with the confidentiality of their health status information. Subsequently, the primary objective of the Capstone Project will be to outline various reasons why adopting Electronic Medical Systems in health institution would improve the care delivery as well as promote confidentially in patients who attending the facilities. Moreover, the scope of the project will include the patient, health care workers, as well as the physician responses in a local health care institution.
